Painter Painter at the Walker Art Center

Posted on by thiestalle in things to do | Leave a comment
Painter Painter presents new work by 15 artists from the US and Europe in a focused survey of emergent developments in abstract painting and studio practice. With an expanded series of public programs, it also considers the ever-shifting role of the painter in contemporary art and culture, which remains as fluid as the medium itself.

The exhibition posits abstract painting today as a means, not an end. For these artists, painting is a generative process—one that is rooted in the studio yet open and receptive to the world. Here new languages of abstraction and eccentric methods of making are freely pursued, crossing paths with sculpture, poetry, film, music, performance, design, publishing, craft, and fashion. Thus painting becomes a conduit—a way to make contactbeyond the closed frame of their formal invention.

The Walker’s first group painting show in more than a decade, the exhibition features Matt Connors, Sarah Crowner, Fergus Feehily, Jay Heikes, Rosy Keyser, Charles Mayton, Dianna Molzan, Joseph Montgomery, Katy Moran, Alex Olson, Scott Olson, Zak Prekop, Dominik Sittig, Lesley Vance, and Molly Zuckerman-Hartung.

Pink Floyd is rarely discussed without using words like “psychedelic”, “conceptual” and “provocative”. Their shows are described as being theatrical with mind-blowing lights and unsurpassed sound. And their music cannot be referred to without making mention of their record breaking status. Without question Pink Floyd remains one of the most influential rock bands of all time. No easy feat to bring such a story to the stage…

Annerin Productions has endeavored to bring fans the show they never thought they’d see. They searched the continent for committed and talented musicians who could really do it justice. This was a project that was not going to happen if it could not be done right.

The vision was not to produce a stadium show. In fact, in an effort to create the true Pink Floyd experience it would be just the opposite. Two key factors were at the core of the plan…

• Keep it intimate. Put the legendary combination of music, sound and lights in a theatre atmosphere.
• Ensure the sensual attack of Floyd. Give it top a priority along with the music.

They nailed it. They found the band, the lights and the sound to create THE show for the ultimate Floyd fan, and it’s called…The Pink Floyd Experience

Valentines day gift for him ideas

Let’s face it.  There are a few things that guys always like and one of them is a new toy to play with.  Here is an idea we came across that you will enjoy.  Tuck the shiny new toy that he’s been eyeing (like an iPod touch, shown) in the front pocket of a white collared shirt. He’ll look smart and polished at the office — and love having apps for just about everything at his fingertips.

Make His Valentine’s Gift Special: Preload the iPod touch with a few apps you know he’ll love, so it will be ready to use right when he opens it.

enjoying an unparalleled streak of hits. The band’s current album “Amaryllis” entered
the Billboard 200 at #4 upon its release (#1 on the Rock Album chart), and has already
spawned back-to-back #1 singles with “Bully” and “Unity.” Shinedown frontman Brent

“There was a cabaret, and there was a master of ceremonies…”

Life in 1920s Berlin, like many other parts of the world, was a time of excess and carefree living. Take your seat at the Kit Kat Klub, the perfectly marvelous cabaret.

Cabaret depicts the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer (Sally Bowles), a writer from America (Cliff Bradshaw), and the citizens of Berlin, all caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. As the Nazi party begins its rise to power in the 1930s, each character’s life is deeply affected and each must decide how to respond to the political events happening around them. Sally and Cliff must each decide if they will abandon themselves to the pleasures of the cabaret, or open their eyes and face the coming storm.

Based on Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin, Cabaret is hard-edged, with a starkly real storyline. The images of Berlin and the ways in which it bows to the rise of the Nazi Party are powerful and disturbing, providing lessons for generations of theater-goers.
